FAQs
The pricing system I employ really depends on the scope of work required. I can help in many different ways. Some projects or clients require hourly work, some prefer a proposal for a project in its entirety. I am flexible to the needs of the client.
I always have an initial meeting to get an idea of the client's expectations for the end product. I want to make sure I am the best fit for their needs so I know exactly how to serve them. After that I will come up with a customized timeline, getting approval at each stage. My work process includes back and forth communication with the client to ensure I am creating the product that directly serves their need. I do a final review and approval stage to finish off a project.
I hold three diplomas and a certificate from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology: Business Administration diploma in Management (specializing in entrepreneurship), Business Administration diploma in Marketing, Radio and Television (Television) diploma, and a certificate in Special Events Management.
I started working in administration and coordination at Global Television. It was fast-paced and high pressure. I was responsible for editing scripts for errors before the shows and keeping the morning and noon news programs on time when we were live on the air. I learned to write. Write fast and accurately. I learned to work under pressure. I learned to be an integral part of a team. I also learned what it meant when I failed in a high pressure environment and how to interact inter-personally with my team in the fallout. Before television, I managed sail instructors. I supported instructors above me in the food chain. I created lesson plans and organized people to teach them. I also taught sailing. I learned how to communicate with people who didn't know what they needed, were afraid, and were angry. Since 2014 I have risen to a level in the sport where I can certify instructors. That means I am responsible for creating instructors who will be responsible for the lives of their students while on the water. This type of evaluation takes an innate sense of understanding of a person--whether they are capable of taking care of another human being or whether they need time to mature.
Managing events, writing news releases, proposals, marketing material, planning, tracking, detail management... that is the easy stuff. Taking care of people is the hardest part of my work and is what I pride myself on doing really well.
Accounting firm, insurance companies, oil and gas companies, construction companies, non-profits, charities, committees, volunteer groups, and boards.
I am currently working with a non-profit group to help facilitate fundraising events. Though the role ebbs and flows with the event cycles, I have been working with them for the better part of two years.
In the industry of event management particularly, you hire a person for their interpersonal skills. Anyone can dial up a rental company or hire a DJ. You need to know if your professional can manage the ups and the downs, serve you, educate you, and ultimately pull off an amazing event you would not believe was possible.
Really think through what you need. Clear expectations of what your professional is supposed to deliver to make you happy is essential. The clearer your expectations, the more accurate the price you will pay, the smoother the communication, and the happier you will be with the outcome. It also teaches them how to wow you.
