As a speech-language pathologist with eight years experience in my field I have had the opportunity to increase my experience and training in many areas. I have a particular interest in working with children with Autism (RASP Certified) and also those with hearing loss. I also have extensive experience working with children with childhood apraxia of speech, articulation and phonological delays, fluency disorders and overall receptive and expressive language delays. As a certified speech-language pathologist I can provide a full diagnostic speech-language assessment, caregiver consultation and training, individual therapy, group therapy and a variety of parent training programs. My approach is one based on family-centered, evidence-based practices that believes that parents are a child’s first and most important teachers and should therefore feel enabled to help their child succeed in the future. Since I began working in my field I have had the opportunity to train with We Listen International and learn the Auditory-Verbal Therapy (AVT) approach to working with children with varying degrees of hearing loss. Although I am not yet certified as an Auditory-Verbal Therapist, I have two years experience working with the Infant Hearing Program in Ontario providing this service. In addition, during my time in Australia I provided outreach AVT services to children under the Cochlear Implant Program of the Royal Children’s Hospital in Brisbane. This is an area of particular interest for me and I strive towards certification under the AG Bell association in the future. Further, I have had many opportunities to work with children with Autism by providing varying services including individual therapy, group therapy, parent training, classroom consult and more. I have been working with children with Autism since 2006. I am a Hanen trained and certified instructor for both the More Than Words and TalkAbility programs, both of which provide valuable skills and training to parents of children on the Autism Spectrum.
