Charged with the explosive voice of Lady Plutonium and the stellar guitar riffs of Master Blaster, highlighted by the molten hot sax of Atom Bomb, and underlined by the rhythm of Johnny Neutrino on bass and Aunty Gravity on drums, the group fused together an entire setlist of some of the best known classic and modern rock songs spanning the ages. With smouldering harmonies and clever musical machinations, this group has reworked familiar hit songs which has effectively doubled their half-life. QCBB is a 30 member British-style brass band that rehearses every Wednesday at 7pm at Knox-Met United. Our Musical Director is Dr. Peter Meechan. Queen City Brass Band is a traditional British-style Brass Band based in Regina, Saskatchewan. It is a community band made up of a diverse group of over thirty musicians from amateurs to professionals with many different professional backgrounds. Whilst QCBB is a community band, it strives to attain the highest possible standard of music making. The music QCBB performs includes a wide variety of genres, from original compositions to traditional hymns, marches, folk music, programmatic music, lyrical music, contemporary and movie music, and competition or festival music. In the last year, QCBB has performed in a variety of concerts in the community. These concerts have featured world-renowned guest artists, including euphonium soloist David Thornton of the U.K., and, on June 17, 2017, will feature Order of Canada recipient and trumpet soloist Jens Lindemann, in addition to Saskatoon’s Dean McNeill, and Regina’s own Miles Newman, principal trumpet of the Regina Symphony Orchestra. Within the community, QCBB has raised awareness of the needs of Regina’s homeless through collecting over 700 pairs of socks as admission to the annual Christmas concert, and will be involving 150 trumpet players from schools and communities across the province in the performance of a newly commissioned fanfare by Canadian composer Kenley Kristofferson. In the past, QCBB has performed at retirement homes, and Wascana Rehab Centre, and has participated in the Prairie Brass Band Festival. More recently, QCBB continues to provide music in collaboration with Knox-Metropolitan United Church Sunday services, school band programs (this year with Greenall High School and LeBoldus High School), and has played a pre-concert performance for the RSO. The QCBB rehearses every Wednesday at 7:00 pm at Knox-Met under the direction of Dr. Peter Meechan. At the ripe old age of two his parents captured him on cassette (yes, the days before CDs and MP3s) naming current tunes. In his high school years he was often given a piece of paper and the responsibility for coming up with a play-list for dances. But if you asked him back then, he wouldn’t have told you that when he’d grow up he would be making his living as a DJ. It wasn’t until after completing a university degree program in Kinesiology that he would have a brush with manning the wheels of steel at a house party early one morning; this would have a profound effect on him. Being a fan of the party scene and flirting with the idea of being a ‘DJ’ this brief experience at the house party planted a seed that finally came to fruition a few years later. Getting his baptism by fire by jumping into the DJ game during the summer of 2007; he has been going full steam ahead ever since. Matty’s outgoing personality on and off the decks has led him to a number of residencies across Toronto including Fly, Footwork, Straight, Lo’la, Fuzion, Voglie, Remy’s, Tota, Riva and Li’ly; this is in addition to numerous one-offs and charity events. Matty Ryce is a rising star in the DJ scene. His talents have gone from the national to international level with bookings across Ontario, the United States, and all the way to Norway. Appearances in major festivals such as WMC in Miami and Pride here in Toronto have helped establish his name. With Matty’s growing popularity he is becoming a staple in the Toronto music scene, from College Street to Church Street. Stay tuned.

Toronto, M3C 0C1An Australian/Canadian Toronto based indie-alternative duo. Hey Guys! We are FXRRVST (pronounced ‘forest’), an indie alternative duo based in Toronto. Our names are Holly Forrest and Matthew Fuentes. We met in August of 2015 and have been playing music together ever since. We strive to be a charitable and environmentally conscious band, doing all we can to give back. All our merchandise (including our CDs) are eco-friendly and part of the cost goes to different local and international charities. Since day one, we’ve understood that if we ever became a successful band, it was because of others. So its only fair that we share our success with everyone and help those who really need it.
