Numerous historic structures, walkways and work areas have been restored or reinstated, and a collection of more than 500 artifacts related to the fishery and everyday life are on display and there is a special exhibit on the Labrador Fisheries. Weelateéxung Nature Trail - ‘the good path’
Thamesville, N0P 0B4Experiencing the outdoors, learning about Carolinian nature, wildlife photography, bird watching, exercise. Tucked in between the Great Lakes Huron, Erie and Lake St Clair, following the second largest drainage basin in SW Ontario, the Weelateexung is a rare, 1.8 Km gem found in the segmented landscape of what is left of the Carolinian Zone in Ontario. The river formerly known as the Deshkan Ziibii to the original inhabitants before colonisation, was designated a Heritage River by the Canadian government over 15 years previous. Today, we The Lunnapeew People, who have resided by her wayside for over 200 years have blazed and manicured a walking trail to bring public awareness to the unstable plight of many species natïve to this part of Mother Earth. Before the Age of Industry, she ran clear, supporting much more aquatic and semi-aquatic life. The rapid growth in population of the region severely affected the natural balance that existed for countless centuries. With the introduction of non-native species into this system, the life in this great, old life line has been impaired. Recently, the Delaware Nation Chief and Council, administration and volunteers have worked with the LTVCA to reforest and reclaim long overused farming land adjacent to the trail to improve habitat and species diversity. So far we have increased a 250 metre section at the head of the trail with a 100 ft buffer zone to keep vehicle and heavy farm equipment away from a historically unstable embankment. Whereas, in the late spring of 2014, almost 5000 trees were added to a 5 acre section in the wellhead protection zone, which is located adjacent to the trail 1.3 km from the trail head. The trail also reclaimed 3 small pockets of farm field in the first 250 m, where some prairie grasses were planted in the first 2 pockets and a small cluster of White Cedar seedlings found a home in the 3rd pocket. 500 metres of trail was also added to the original 1.3km in 2014. Now, in 2015, again with the help of the LTVCA, another 8 acres and 8000 native tree/shrub species has been planted. Almost 1 acre was added to the trail head and 7.7 acres placed in the future 1.3km, 3rd phase of trail which is scheduled for construction during the summer of 2015. Trying to promote native tall grass prairie, 3 acres has been selected and planted in the immediate vicinity of the most westerly wellhead, 1.7km from the trailhead. This area will take 3 or more years to develop into a beautiful native tall grass and forbe prairie, which is very rare now, but historically covered many square kms in SW Ontario. Our plight will continue, as we must strive to regain habitat and improve ecosystems for a healthy, stable environment now and for the future.

Capricorn Motel Royale
Lansdowne, K0E 0A5We are a 14 room motel conveniently located just off the 1000 Island Parkway in the quaint Village of Ivy Lea, Ontario. Karen and I came to look at the Capricorn Motel Royale in the spring of 2016. We absolutely fell in love with the motel and the location. Our tag line from day 1 has been “Clean, Quiet, and Beautiful”. The Capricorn Motel Royale is located on a lane that runs along the shore of the St. Lawrence River with beautiful homes, a horse barn, floating homes, boat docks and marinas. The property has lots of parking for our guests’ boats and trailers, as well as the use of the free public boat launch and dock. Each of our rooms is at ground level and has a covered patio area with tables and chairs. They have a mini fridge, and coffee maker and a small sitting area. There is access to a shared kitchenette with a full sized fridge, toaster, kettle, microwave, and an assortment of dishes and cutlery (and the all important cork screw). There are also propane BBQs available. 11 of the rooms have 2 double beds and 3 have a queen sized bed. Directly across the lane from the motel is the Gananoque Boat Line - Ivy Lea Port that offers 1 hour sightseeing tours of the amazing St. Lawrence River and the 1000 Islands including the famous Boldt Castle. Also directly across the lane is the Smugglers Cove Resto Bar, a totally renovated exciting new restaurant and bar with a spectacular patio that looks out over the 1000 Islands. On the north side of the 1000 Islands Parkway is a paved bike trail. It runs along the river and spans 40km from Gananoque to Brockville offering a safe beautiful walk or ride along the river. Our first summer was a whirlwind of unbelievable. We learned how to run a motel, we met many great people from around the world and we figured out what we and our guests thought we could improve. Since taking over, we have installed a new internet and an enhanced WiFi is now available to all our guests free. We installed a new satellite system and purchased flatscreen TVs for every room. We purchased new air conditioners for every room. We renovated several bathrooms. We installed new flooring in several rooms. We replaced many beds that we felt were not up to our standards. We purchased new linens and towels. It is now the middle of February and we can’t wait to show off the many upgrades to our guests when we re-open May 1. To make reservations or ask questions, please contact us directly.
