An urban agriculture initiative by CHEP Good Food Inc., The Saskatoon Food Council, and The U of S College of Agriculture and Bioresources. The purpose of The Askîy Project is to demonstrate urban agriculture by educating and empowering the Saskatoon community with the knowledge and skills needed to create a self-sustainable food economy. What is Urban Agriculture? Urban agriculture is the practice of growing, maintaining, and distributing healthy food products within city limits. The possibilities of urban agriculture are endless as more creative minds band together to reach this common goal! The Initiative In the summer of 2015, two coordinators and six interns set out on an exciting project to demonstrate the possibilities, benefits, and challenges of urban agriculture within the city of Saskatoon. The askîy project (pronounced aa-SKI), which in Cree means “Earth,” is an initiative administered by CHEP Good Food Inc. in partnership with the Saskatoon Food Council and the University of Saskatchewan College of Agriculture and Bioresources. Financial support for the project is provided by The Mosaic Company and the federally funded Urban Partnership Program. Since then, each summer interns have taken part in the askîy project, showcasing how urban agriculture can be accomplished in Saskatoon. The interns are challenged to complete the following tasks: 1) Grow food in an environmentally sustainable way within Saskatoon city limits particularly in the core neighbourhoods. 2) Engage with the community to demonstrate the possibilities and benefits of growing food in small city spaces (tours, pamphlets, posters, etc). 3) Encourage reclamation of the land and discuss the importance of urban agriculture as a resistance to the current mainstream food system. 4) Find a place to sell the food (restaurants, Farmers Market, U of S, local programs/initiatives, etc) 3) Market the product – develop a brand, logo, promotion package, and marketing strategy. 4) Make a profit. 5) Meet, learn from, and volunteer for local market gardening experts. 6) Help out in the community - Community Garden Builds, U of S Rooftop Gardens, CNYC Transplanting Day 7) Lead the way for future internsNewLife4Tommy

Yellowknife, X1A 0A1
A community-based project to restore Yellowknife’s historic Tommy Forrest ball diamond, revitalizing an important link to the city’s past. Even in Yellowknife, there is a nostalgic feel to a sun-filled summer day, wooden bleachers and the traditional call of “Play Ball”. For long-time Yellowknifers, it brings back memories of a time when the Tommy Forrest ball park was a uniting and electrifying hub of our northern community; and a local team of fast ball players went all the way to the national championships – twice! Yellowknife’s Men’s Fastball Association has embarked on a project to restore the Tommy Forrest ball diamond and revitalize this important link to our city’s past. Our goals: • Upgrade the Tommy Forrest field with a new and improved infield and grass in the outfield; • Rebuild the Tommy Forrest Facility; • Surround the Tommy Forrest Ball park with a multi-use and family-safe green space for use by young and old alike; and • Re-introduce and establish the Tommy Forrest Ball park as the heart of our city’s ball community and a vibrant and active sports facility. The original dugouts have already been re-built and aging bleachers replaced with new family-friendly picnic tables. This summer, volunteers will begin work to restore the infield - and for the first time in its history, after an historic $60,000 commitment from the City of Yellowknife, grass will be laid in the outfield. In the next two years, the field’s infrastructure will also be refurbished; fences replaced, an outfield wall constructed and new viewing and concession facilities built. Before we’re done, we also hope to repurpose the surrounding area - incorporating a playground, a walking track and a central multi-use green space for Yellowknife residents young and old alike. Follow this page for news on the field’s progress, fundraising initiatives, and to hear stories of Tommy Forrest past and present: what this field means to our city, and what it will mean in the future.Christina Lake is a Happening Place

I am a mother who is passionate about making a difference in this community by positively impacting the lives of our youth. Do you remember those mothers who willingly looked out for everyone’s children? Who opened their hearts and homes to any child who needed someone? Who listened and cared without question and without judgment because they understood and truly wanted to make the world a better and safer place for all children? Almost every day we hear another news report on bullying and youth violence. While the media is exploding with anti-bullying activities, it seems the real issue is that so many people simply don’t know how to treat themselves or others with the respect that we all deserve. So here is the plan. Through the structure of a drumming circle, we will bring awareness to elementary students about rhythms in our lives and our communities, and the importance of harmony within ourselves and our relationships. Our mission is to provide the youth of our communities with a sense of purpose and accountability to themselves and to each other. Most programs like this one are geared toward “youth at risk“. My question is why do we wait until youth are at risk before we intervene to teach them these much-needed life skills. Therefore, we are volunteering our time and efforts by presenting our message in elementary classrooms. Eventually, I believe that we will also offer it through community associations. “Together we’re bringing back the village!“Fired-Up ! Glass Arts

From childhood to his current years, he has taken his passions and grown those passions into successful businesses. Jamie has been interested in real estate for many years. His career began by opening a roofing and construction business in 1996, which he currently still owns and operates as a journeyman carpenter. During his years of building custom homes and creating people’s dreams, his interests grew into owning and operating a rental property business with his wife. They purchased their first rental home in 2000 and have continued to expand this business. Jamie felt the next step in his career would be to become a real estate agent. By studying to become a REALTOR®/Broker in 2010, he gained the knowledge and understanding of helping people achieve their dreams of finding a home or place of business to call their own. In listening to the wants and needs of his clients, Jamie decided he could better serve them and the community by opening a local office. Salmo Baptist Church exists to glorify God and to serve those around us allowing them to see Jesus Christ in a very real and tangible way. Our Mission and our Purpose are the same...Love God, Love Others, and Serve the Community. Once when asked which commandment in the Law was the greatest, Jesus answer was, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and most important commandment. The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commandments.“ In an John chapter 13, we read about Jesus, who was fully God and fully man, humbling Himself by washing the feet of His disciples. It is in Jesus response to this very important question, coupled with His servant’s heart, that we find our reason to exist as His church in Salmo, British Columbia. End to end services: Consult Ink can be called upon to manage and deliver any communications-related requirement you may have. Welcome to St. Thomas’ Church and to our sister chapels of St. Stephen’s, Vankoughnet and St. Peter’s Rocksborough. Vision Statement: Every Church is called to worship God, make disciples, and meet human needs in Jesus’ name. At St. Thomas’, Bracebridge, we believe that living out this call in our time and culture demands a bold commitment to biblical hospitality. Therefore, we seek God’s grace and the guidance of the Holy Spirit to teach us what it means to welcome others, even when doing so stretches our human comfort zones, so that together we may experience and extend the love of Christ, growing and gladly serving in His name. Be sure to check out our website at https://www.cafconnection.ca/Petawawa!. Welcome to Garrison Petawawa. As the PSP Manager, I focus on the provision of quality of life programs and activities which make living in this area that much better. Over the past ten years, we have focused on investing in our facilities and our programs and services. You will find that Garrison Petawawa has some of the best fitness, sports and recreation facilities in Canada. Our gym is well equipped and our field house is world class. In addition, our base boasts a Recreation Complex on the north side and a similar Recreation/PMFRC shared facility on the south side. In terms of recreational clubs, Garrison Petawawa’s clubs have gone through a transition in the last few years with new clubs coming on line to replace older clubs that are no longer supported by the community. We are always open to new club ideas and each year we see new activities coming on line. For the young members of the community, the Recreation Complex (Rec Plex) conducts many great programs aimed at young children. For the teens, there is an excellent teen club at the South Side Community Centre which provides great supervised fun for teens. There is no lack of things for children to do at Garrison Petawawa. Be sure to clear into the Rec Plex as part of your in clearance process. The best way to take advantage of all that the base has to offer is to acquire a Community Access Card commonly referred to as a CAC. This card gives you access to all of our clubs and allows your family to access the gym and the recreation complexes after working hours. In summary, Garrison Petawawa is a great community where there is much to do in terms of fitness, sports and recreation. Join in and take advantage of all this area has to offer. Claire Card in Saskatoon University
Saskatoon, S7H 0A1Claire is the NDP candidate in the federal riding of Saskatoon-University. Office: 1-270 Acadia Drive, Saskatoon, SK, S7H 3V4 Phone: 306-500-0572. Claire is a community leader and award-winning veterinarian. Now she’s ready to fight for Saskatoon families as part of Tom Mulcair’s NDP team. After moving to Saskatoon with her family in the early 1990s, Claire began working as a veterinarian and teacher at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan. Since that time, she has become a widely recognized champion for affordable, quality post-secondary education. Claire is a trailblazing community leader. She was the first woman ever elected to chair the academic governing body at the University of Saskatchewan. And for the last eight years, she has directed a project in rural Uganda that helps empower women through sustainable agriculture. Claire’s extraordinary efforts to help some of the world’s most vulnerable people led Veterinarians without Borders to name her Volunteer of the Year. After a decade of Conservatives taking Saskatoon for granted, you can trust Claire to help fix the damage done by Stephen Harper—with practical ideas like these: - Launch Tom Mulcair’s plan for affordable childcare—pay no more than $15 a day. -Take better care of seniors by investing in health care and housing. - Tackle climate change with a practical plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Claire is a long-time resident of Saskatoon where she lives with her partner, labour lawyer Peter Barnacle. Together, they are the proud parents of a blended family with six children and four grandchildren. As a parent, grandparent and your next MP, Claire is committed to building a fairer Canada for the next generation—where our economy works for everyone and no one is left behind.
