Talk about what will be happening to their vehicle, what will be done, what products will be used. Make them feel comfortable handing their vehicle off to someone they don't know.

I got start with detailing from personal use, once I found out how much I enjoyed it, I studied techniques, learned from masters of the craft.

A showroom demo vehicle, covered in finger prints, scratches, all sorts of dirt everywhere inside. Took about a day and a half to get everything done inside and out. The most difficult part was getting all the scratches out of the paint due to improper washing and dusting.

Make sure they know what they're doing. It's easy to use a general purpose degreaser/cleaner and a towel, knowing what product to use when and where, on what type of material or surface, that takes experience, knowledge and time working your craft.
