Naturally the first step is the introduction. Next we would meet and go over the needs of the future client and consult on what their needs are. Finding out what the client has in mind for a budget is essential in going forward. Planning and outlining g options would be next and making sure that nothing is overlooked. Point out options to the client for their project, and when the design options have been worked out, send to our in house designer if required. After that the budget goals and costs would be discussed and outlined. After all, what the client has in mind might not be realistic, but that is a normal part of the process.

Every year, a qualified builder in B.C. in order to be able to build new construction in B.C. has to attend hours of instructional time in addition to hours of practical time in the field. This is mandatory to keep the New Home Warranty Accreditation and be a member of the B.C. Builders Association.

Clients and their needs are fascinating. Their needs are different for every type of project. We have designed in house many small to medium homes, high line resort cabins north of Campbell River, small houses on very tight budgets and total renovations in homes taking them to the studs and redoing walls. One that we did involved changing the floorplan, rebuilding the floor structure, all new plumbing, heating and a lot of the original wiring had to be redone. A total of 6 months on site, but what a transformation and the biggest smile on the client's faces!

One of the most enjoyable was situated on the water front in Columbia Beach. The clients had a vision which involved gutting the house. 6 months in the making but what a wonderful transition. The look on the client's faces? Priceless.

In any trade and profession, there are many who use the term "Professional" very loosely. One only has to look at the reports on the net about client's being scammed. Listen, evaluate, and make sure that the firm that you are interviewing listens to your needs. Ask about quality and features. The true professional will have ideas, resources, and an understanding of what you want to achieve. Personally, I have worked with clients for many months, describing every question and step as being asked. You are the one who wants the dream.
