St. John Ambulance-Alberta Council improves the quality of life of Albertans through community service and First Aid training. Our Mission: To enable Canadians to improve their health, safety and quality of life by providing training and community service. We carry out our mission through community service, and first aid, and CPR training. Community Services volunteers include uniformed members who serve communities across Canada, providing first aid and emergency response support, as well as improving the quality of life for people confined to a health care facility through our Therapy Dog visitation program. Our volunteers contribute millions of hours to Canadian communities each year. First aid and CPR Training comprises instructors, volunteers and staff who provide high-quality first aid training and products. Under the guidance of our network of medical and health care professionals, St. John Ambulance is the national leader, setting the standard for training in first aid, CPR and other lifesaving skills. Our Vision: To be the premier first aid training and community service organization in Canada. Our Values: We live the mission and vision by practicing these values: • Teamwork • Fairness • Equity • Integrity • Constructiveness • Respect • Loyalty • Tolerance • Quality and balance of life Company Overview Our History in Canada St. John Ambulance has a rich and proud history of service in Canada since 1883 that has helped it become the outstanding charitable organization it is today. This includes wartime service at home and oversees (both “ambulance” and nursing divisions), emergency and disaster response, and First Aid and home nursing training and service. In 2008, St. John Ambulance celebrates i ts 125th Anniversary in Canada. Our History in Alberta St. John was established in Canada in 1883 under the (then) Dominion Council of the St. John Ambulance Association in Canada. The Dominion Council established nursing units and community services in Edmonton and Calgary in 1897 under the auspices of then Edmonton Town Mayor John McDougall who directed St John training and community service activities in the Province through his office in Edmonton. In 1911, after a period of significant growth in community services membership, and training close to 100 people per year in First Aid to growing populations in the two cities, the St. John Council for Alberta was organized with John McDougall as its first Chair. From 1908 until the mid 1920s St John operated out of McDougall’s garage where training and administration were centred in Alberta. In 1930 St John moved into its first training centre in the Province. The mission of St John Ambulance remains the same (with minor wording changes) after 107 years in the Province – “Enabling Canadians to improve their health, safety and quality of life by providing training and community services” St John Ambulance in Alberta was instrumental in bringing compulsory First Aid training to the workplace through joint lobbying with the WCB in the 1920s; providing ambulances, training, blood services and First Aid kits to the Canadian military for both world wars; lobbying for statutory First Aid standards in the 1960s and 70s and advising Government of needed changes to the First Aid Regulations throughout the 1990s.4 Points Safety ﹠ Training Inc.

In Kitchener-Waterloo we’re proud to be celebrating 77 years! ED Tony Lea is the founder of the Waterloo Marathon ﹠ Ed Whitlock Half Marathon, our major fundraiser. In 1883 in Quebec City, the first Canadian branch of St. John Ambulance was established. St. John Ambulance is an international humanitarian organization and is a foundation of the Order of St. John. As Canada’s standard for excellence in first aid and CPR services, St. John Ambulance offers innovative programs, ensuring Canadians receive the best quality training. Revenue generated from first aid/CPR training supports St. John Ambulance’s charitable work in Canada and around the world. St. John Ambulance has a long history in Canada, where it issued its first certificate in first aid training in Quebec City in 1883. The first branch of St. John Ambulance was founded in London Ontario, in 1909. From its inception in 1940, the Kitchener-Waterloo Branch offered First Aid, and later CPR and AED at community events. It also began a proud tradition of volunteer work in our community. To financially support the training, clothing and equipment costs, the Branch volunteers started to teach First Aid. Revenue generated from its first aid courses, which are the Industry Standard in Ontario as stated in the WSIB pamphlet, goes directly back into community programs and services to improve quality of life. St. John Ambulance - Calgary
Calgary, T1X 0L3St. John Ambulance is a national leader in setting the standard in First Aid and CPR training and other lifesaving skills. St. John was established in Canada in 1883 under the (then) Dominion Council of the St. John Ambulance Association in Canada. The Dominion Council established nursing units and community services in Edmonton and Calgary in 1897 under the auspices of then Edmonton Town Mayor John McDougall who directed St. John training and community service activities in the Province through his office in Edmonton. In 1911, after a period of significant growth in community services membership, and training close to 100 people per year in First Aid to growing populations in the two cities, the St. John Council for Alberta was organized with John McDougall as its first Chair. From 1908 until the mid 1920s St. John operated out of McDougall’s garage where training and administration were centred in Alberta. In 1930 St. John moved into its first training centre in the Province. The mission of St. John Ambulance remains the same (with minor wording changes) after 107 years in the Province — “Enabling Canadians to improve their health, safety and quality of life by providing training and community services” St. John Ambulance in Alberta was instrumental in bringing compulsory First Aid training to the workplace through joint lobbying with the WCB in the 1920s; providing ambulances, training, blood services and First Aid kits to the Canadian military for both world wars; lobbying for statutory First Aid standards in the 1960s and 70s and advising Government of needed changes to the First Aid Regulations throughout the 1990s. Today, St. John Ambulance continues to play an integral role in our society. Building on more than 900 years of history, St. John Ambulance continues to provide innovative First Aid programs and products as well as provide valuable community services and support during disasters.
